Canadian hard rock kingpins Nickelback have just been awarded a veritable avalanche of new sales/streaming certifications in the United States by the RIAA. First up is their 2005 single “Rockstar“, which has just become their first single to hit diamond status in the United States. It was featured on their already diamond-certified fifth studio album “All The Right Reasons“.
That track didn’t just hit diamond status however, having newly been certified 12x platinum as of today, September 04th. “How You Remind Me“, the hit lead single from their third studio album is also on the cusp of hitting diamond status, having newly been certified 9x platinum.
The full round of certifications newly handed out today for the band run as follows:
12x platinum:
“Rockstar“
9x platinum:
“How You Remind Me“
5x platinum:
“Far Away“
4x platinum:
“If Today Was Your Last Day“
“Animals“
“Photograph“
“Savin’ Me“
3x platinum:
“Gotta Be Somebody“
“Burn It To The Ground“
“If Everyone Cared“
2x platinum:
“This Afternoon“
Platinum:
“Someday“
“Figured You Out“
“Something In Your Mouth“
Gold:
“Feelin’ Way Too Damn Good“
“San Quentin“
“The Best Of Nickelback, Vol. 1” (album)
As it so happens though, it won’t be the band that profits the most directly from the continued popularity of their catalog. As the group revealed this past July, Nickelback sold off roughly 80% of their stake in their catalog to an unnamed party several years ago.
*A platinum album/single in the United States represents 1,000,000 units, while gold signifies 500,000 units. Outside of traditional physical/digital sales, the certifications factor in digital streams/downloads with 10 permanent track downloads counting as 1 unit and 1500 on-demand audio/video streams from a particular album also counting as as a unit. 150 streams of a song also equate to a track-equivalent unit.
